The Resurrection of A Lazy Blogger

When’s the last time that I logged in here? A month ago? It seems like a lifetime. I have been so bad and irresponsible for keeping this out of my daily schedule. In fact, just logging in here now, I am in total oblivion as to what my password is. I have to concentrate and ponder on it deeply. Sad, isn’t it? For the nth time, I am blogging again about my “return” in blogosphere. Tsk, tsk.

Honestly, there is not much that is going on with my life right now, which could be the reason on why I am speechless. Life is always a routine – home, work, school, home, work, school. Wait. I almost forgot to mention, the three of us (me, husband and my daughter) went to Disney World Orlando and South Miami these past few weeks. Let me blog about it separately. I just feel that, I need to catch up.

Let me start by sharing to you my new great find. It’s a book series for 2nd graders. It’s called “Diary of A Wimpy Kid” by Jeff Kinney. As you may have guessed, it’s a book that I bought for my 8-year old daughter. I believe that, the whole collection is consist of only four or five books. Sad. On a lighter note, I have read somewhere that sometime next year the movie version will be shown. Yepey!

You see, sleeping early at night has always been a problem with me. I am lucky enough to snooze at about midnight. Most of the time, I hit the pillow around 1:00 to 2:00am, even on week nights. There was even a day when I went to work without snoozing for the whole 24 hours. The weird thing about it — I was not sleepy or sloppy the whole day at all.  I do not count sheeps to fall asleep. So what I usually do, I dig into my daughter’s file of books and began reading some. Hence, the Wimpy Kid series discovery. I am hooked and have always been entertained. I am down to the last book, and it will be the end of the obsession. I hope (and pray) that, the author will come up with more Wimpy Kid series.

By the way, have I told you that I finally have my own workstation at home?  My husband gave it to me on my birthday.  We only do computer stuff in our home office, and nowhere else. Part of his OCD, I guess. We used to share the same work area.  He is a computer freak too, so just imagine the constant bickering on who uses the area first. With the sum of the money he spent, he could have bought me a laptop, but I told him not to. A desk top is better for me, because it is easy to upgrade and the parts are cheap. I used to work for a computer company in the Philippines, so pretty much I know the pros and cons between a desktop and a laptop. Besides, I do all home management and budgeting duties, so a desktop works perfectly fine.   He knows that, I am always into organizing our files and gazing at my computer screen whenever I am at home. It’s not just the Internet, I play PC games too. Red Alert, Rise of Nations, my faves. Yes, fella. I am never enticed with the hundreds of channels that our Dish Network subscription is offering. I leave that part of the house (the TV area) to my husband and Amber. Anyway, up until now, my workstation is still a mess. I can not seem to organize it with all these daily junkmails in our mailbox. I only throw it in the trash when I am done reading them. Who knows, some may have good news.

But really, its entirety looks like this. I hate the wires below the desk, but there is nothing that I can really do about it. I like my computer. It’s friggin fast. I am not techie at all when it comes to gadgets. I do not even have a cellphone. Well, I once had but I decided to dispose it. I am just being practical. When I am at home, we have the home phone. When I am at the office, I have my work phone. Besides, I do not have any callers at all aside from my husband and some friends, who usually call me at home at nightime.  I do not drive, so I am pretty much at home or at work. Well, there is a  must for me — a hand lotion beside the monitor. Touching paper with my dry hands is not my idea of a happy moment.

What else? Oh, my poor little girl is sick. She has strep throat and is running a fever. I am stationed at home for two days to take care of her. She could not be around other kids in school and in day care in this condition. Hopefully, she’ll get better for the Christmas week–that’s already next week. So many things to think, so many things to do. The year ends too fast. Sometimes, my mind just want to blow. Anyway, that’s life. So, it’s fine.

Slava, A Serbian Orthodox Tradition

As they say, America is founded by immigrants. This is proven by the diverse culture depicted by living our every day lives. We meet  a lot of people of different culture, color and beliefs. This makes the country interesting to live in for people who are open to new things. As an immigrant myself, I enjoy this one thing that the country has to offer.

Just this evening, we had a great and sumptuous dinner with the long-time Serbian friends, the Lazaravics. It is in celebration with the Serbian Orthodox tradition — the Slava. Being in this kind of occasion opens my mind to a whole new world. People may have live in this country for so long, but they can still keep their beliefs and tradition alive. I give my kudos to the wife for cooking Serbian food every day, even if American instant food is just within arms length. If you are in America, it’s tough to cook right from scratch. It requires so much dedication and time.

As an ender — I just realized that I like Serbian food better than Chinese. I hope, one day, I will learn to cook it.

Sending Money To The Philippines

One prominent part of the Filipino culture that, I carry here in the US — is to take care of our parents no matter what. Being physically far is not a license to forget them, and live comfortably whilst they suffer from poverty. I am talking about sending money to our folks. If you are a Filipino, you understand what I mean. To be fair to my husband, I do not get the money I send from our income as a couple. With the help of blog marketing, I am able to fulfill my responsibility without disrespecting the culture that he lives.

For many months now, I have been using Xoom.Com in transferring money to them. It’s affordable and accessible. All I need is my Paypal account and Internet connection. Just recently, I discovered another means of money transfer – this time, cheaper and more convenient. I am talking about UnionBank’s EON CyberAccount. The good news is – you can use its ATM card to withdraw funds from your PayPal account. From PayPal(US) to PayPal (Philippines) transfer, it’s free. At a minimal amount, they can withdraw the money at any VISA-accredited ATM machine in the Philippines. Sweet, isn’t it?

One flaw of this though – the process is complicated. It needs a techie hand to do it. But if you want the easy way, just use Xoom. I am just giving options here, and I am not advertising.

Changing Career During Economic Crisis

It is all over the news. Our economy is indefinitely disabled. Employers laying off people. Unemployed workers desperately looking for jobs. The purchasing power of the consumers is greatly affected. Sooner or later, everyone’s livelihood will be in big threat. This is very sad.

Do you know an industry that never falters amidst this economic turmoil? You are right — the medical industry. People value life. Even if you have to spend the last penny in your pocket in sending a loved one into a medical care facility, you will never mind. Even if how poor you are, you will do everything to make life easier and longer for anyone we care. This is the human nature — to care and love. This is the reason, the medical industry is big money. Many high school graduates are gearing toward any medical position. A number of workers, even professionals, are shifting careers.

Whether the decision to change career is good or bad in an economy where everything is volatile, this still remains a vague and broad question.

Bikertoberfest 2009 In Ormond Beach, Florida

It is not as wild as the Biketoberfest celebration in Main Street of Daytona Beach, but it busy enough to cause traffic in the area, particularly, near the Harley-Davidson dealership. Just like the other year, I was mortified to see an (older) woman wearing nothing but skimpy top and a T-back. When everything is sagging, it is not really a good sight to see. You know what I mean.

P.S. Sorry, I got no pictures to show. My husband was being a party-pooper and did not want to go out of the car to check out the celebration. Obviously, he is not a biker dude at all.

Sci-Fi Versus Romance Movies

My husband and I have different tastes in movies. He likes his adrenaline-pumping and “creepy” sci-fis. For me, I am so much in love with romantic comedies and any sort of real-life movies. I can not still believe that, up to this day, he thinks Twilight sucks. According to him, it is a cheesy chick-flick. Well, I am glad that I am a chick.
Right now, he is watching Tinman from the sci-fi channel, while I am here blogging. It’s 1:11am, and I am still wide awake. Both of us sleep too late, like 2:00am, even if we have to work the next day. A cup of two of coffee keep me awake the whole day.
I am so ready to watch the Twilight sequel, New Moon. Anyway, guys. It is getting too late. See you around!

The Most Dangerous Place for Shark Attacks

Volusia County. New Smyrna Beach.

I can not make up my mind if being on the top of the list as the world’s most dangerous place for shark attacks is a good or a bad thing. Good — in the sense that, it can drive thrill-seeking surfers, swimmers and extreme sports fanatics all over the world.   Bad — in the sense that, shark attacks is a morbid and scary scene, especially if you have seen the 1975 movie, Jaws.

I used to live in an island. I am an island girl, who does not know how to swim. I am fascinated by the beach sceneries, but never the blue water. I am more of a spectator, than a performer. In my mind, sharks could be anywhere and I coud be eaten and die. Perhaps, this is a result of uncensored movie-viewing in my childhood years. Jaws, that is. Should I thank my parents? Maybe yes, maybe no.

It is a long weekend, and I have nowhere to go. I want to go the beach. In the place that I live now, the beach is just about 2 miles away. But believe it or not, I have not dip in the sea water since I got here. I go to the beach, especially in Daytona Beach, to people-watch.

I hope someday and somehow, I can visit the New Smyrna Beach- not to swim, but to enjoy nature though my eyes. Heck, it’s just two towns away from us..about 30 minutes drive.
