When I was still in the Philippines, I registered with Greenpeace Asia mailing list. One organization that I truly admire for their noble cause. I was curious on how the organization works and where they are headed each mission.

Sometime ago, I got this email linking to this Quit Coal, Save The Climate blog. The blog is informative and awakening, but there is always two sides of the story. Nowadays, coal-fired power plants are using the latest technology in eliminating, if not minimizing, the adverse effects of coal in our environment. They are willing to spend a lot of money to implement it, because after all, it is ALSO their planet, their home. This is a matter of strict compliance of environmental standards, and there is a governing body monitoring this. If a company does not comply, then boot them off the island. If there is one thing that should be eliminated – the corrupt government officials who see foreign investments as milking cows.

Just a piece of my mind.

I almost forgot. It’s Miss Universe 2009 live telecast tonight. I have been waiting for this since last month. However, I have two hurdles to overcome to enjoy the show. First, to convince my husband to give me the remote control of our TV. Second, to look for NBC Channel amongst the hundred of channels in Dish Network.

I just finished watching the preliminary competition in Hulu website. It looks like the Philippines representative, Bianca Manalo, is doing good. The crowd applauded louder than the most of the candidates (aside for Miss Bahamas, of course). Hmmm, will she be another Margie Moran or Gloria Diaz? Let us see. I am rooting for her .

UPDATE:

Miss Philippines did not make it to the top 15.  Miss Venezuela won the title! Second year in a row. There must be a lot of good-looking people in that country.

Filipinos are known for being karaoke lovers. We just love to sing, regardless if we are happy or not. Every song we listen to brings a certain feeling of sentiment. It expresses feelings that are hidden and left unsaid. Even if we sounded like a trying-hard frog, it surely does not stop us from belting our hearts out. I, for one, am very enthusiastic in joining karaoke sessions with friends when I was in the Philippines. But since I set foot here in the US, I have not done any of it. Until I stumbled on this site, The Sims On Stage, sometime ago. I recorded one song (Through The Eyes Of Love), and sent it to a friend just for kicks. But eventually deleted it, before I would embarrass myself.

Today, I tried to find the link to this site. To my dismay, it was long gone. It was already shut down last March 31, 2009.  Sigh. I need to find another one good online karaoke channel again.

The world wide web has become the new mainstream of marketing and advertising nowadays. It somewhat creates a ripple effect. It is becoming a necessity for every household to get connected with the rest of the world. Also, the Internet subscriptions is also getting cheaper. Thanks to the tougher competition amongst Internet service providers. Any decent business firm owns a website or ,at least, can be contacted through electronic mail. It is with this event that advertisers are turning their heads to online media and marketing, particularly blog advertising. It is more cost efficient and less effort is needed.

I will not be surprised if someday, a new blog will be created in a matter of a millisecond. In one hand, the advertisers are desperate to sell their products and services by extending their market visibility, and on the other hand, the bloggers are more vigilant to catch sponsored post opportunities. Paid blogging has become an income-generating venture. Back then, it was just treated as a hobby, like like any form of writing. However, the opportunity to earn is prevailing. I see this as a good sign. The global economy is getting out of shape. All people can think of now is how to earn more. It is a lucrative side job, and a good one too. Personally, I view blogging as a learning experience, especially coming from a country wherein English is not our first language. I must say that, through time, my blogging enhances my vocabulary and grammar. Now that I am in the US, I can use it in my daily life, at home and at work.

For advertisers, it is an efficient and effective tool to market. The cost is very minimal, and it is incomparable to TV and radio advertising. Also, they have the option to choose their bloggers or let a third party company choose the bloggers for them.

Like any other alien in the US, having a greencard is probably the one thing that I aspire for. Well, it is second to having a job though. It is a long and tedious process, but it is worth it.

My greencard journey has finally come to an end this morning. I had my AOS interview appointment at the USCIS Orlando Office. I, together with my husband and daughter, came to the USCIS building just in time — 5 mins. before appointment. We waited in the lobby for 2-3 minutes, and then my name was called.

It was very casual. The adjudication officer was pleasing and friendly. After the hi’s and hello’s, his first statement was — “Your case in already done. All I need to do is get your I-94 and EAD”. When we heard this, we already knew that we were approved. There was no question-and-answer about personal marital stuffs. He did not even ask for ANY proof of relationship at all. It was more on the Yes-and-No part of the form we filled up. Then, he verified my name, SSN, home address and phone number. In about 10 minutes, we were out of his office door. Before we left, we confirmed the result of the appointment, and he said “Yes, you are approved”.

To those who has yet to undergo their AOS interview, good luck! Break a leg!

untitledJust like its title, it is a wonderful film. It is a classic holiday movie from the mid 40′s that captures the heart of the American movie viewers up to these years.

About same time of last year, I asked my husband to rent a feel-good holiday movie. Being a certified movie fanatic, he has seen almost all new release movies, but he nonchalantly recommended to me an old one, It’s A Wonderful Life. At first, I was too hesitant especially it’s too old for my taste, but anyway, we rented it. Right from the beginning of the movie, I was already mesmerized by the plot of the story. The characters are very real and it depicts the reality, the past and the present. It is a movie of hope and gratitude that life is still wonderful even when we are at our lowest.

I do not want to give you the details of the movie. All I can say is — go ahead and watch it. A must for everyone to see!

I got to re-post this Tagalog poem written by Joey De Leon for Willie Revillame about an incident that happened on August 5. I have to say — he nailed it.

Dahil kanilang himpilan naibalik mo.

Subalit ano itong nabalitaan ko?
Nangyari noong Lunes, a-tres ng Agosto,
Habang inililipat ang mga labi mo,
Ika’y parang nabastos sa isang TV show.

At ‘di maaalis sa iyong pag-iisip,
Ang parada ng patay ang pinaliligpit!

At dagdag pa daw ng naghahari-harian,
“I don’t think na dapat n’yong ipakita iyan…”
Nasaan naman ang paggalang, o nasaan?
Mga sinasabi natin minsa’y pag-ingatan.

At ‘di pa nangimi nang sumunod na araw,
Pinilit pa ring ginawa n’ya ay tama raw,
Mga nakarinig ‘di na nakagalaw
At ayon sa iba sila na la’y napa-wow!

“… Pero ako, totoo ‘ko eh … “, sabi kuno,
Totoo nga at totoo ring walang modo,
Pwede namang sabihin itong pa-sikreto,

The breaking news breaks your heart — at ‘yan ang bawi mo,

Mayaman man o mayabang ang tiyak diyan,

Sina Malab, Laguindan, Rodriguez, Cadiente,
Walong oras tumayo sa ulan at viaje,

Kahit isa wala kaming nilapastangan

I am not a fan of Willie. I like the show , but not him. He is just too fake. Whenever he wears his “sad” face, it does not look genuine to me. His jokes? Mostly offending and has no cooth. Also, he has no sense of being discreet. His mouth is faster that his brain. When people react, then he apologizes.

Besides, if you will put anybody with comedic act to host the game show, I am sure, it will still be a big hit. The show drives its viewers mainly because of the free money given away. Why? The thought of money freely given is just too good. Filipinos are generally “dreamy”. What most don’t realized, it is not Willie’s money. He is just a host. Maybe now that he is rich, he can afford to shed some.

Anyway, it is not worth getting stressed out about this issue. There are so many national issues that need to be tackled and resolved.  Willie’s change of attitude is not even one of it. Move on.
